FEDORA (1978), Billy Wilder’s penultimate film, proved to be his swan song – his last true masterpiece. It is the mesmerizing, terrifying portrait of a glamorous film star who pays too high a price for her desire to hold on to fame, beauty and youth. In the guise of a suspense drama, and sprinkled with that inimitable Wilder humour, comes a satire more piercing and telling than any other film on Hollywood since Wilder’s own immortal classic, SUNSET BOULEVARD (1950). And again, as in SUNSET BOULEVARD, it is the character played by William Holden who tells the story.

In retracing the making of FEDORA, Robert Fischer’s documentary SWAN SONG: THE STORY OF BILLY WILDERʼS FEDORA adds yet another layer of comment and reflection on the film’s very own subject matter: 35 years after playing the romantic leads in FEDORA, Marthe Keller and Michael York look back at working with Billy Wilder – and their careers. Additional testimonies come from acclaimed cinematographer Gerry Fisher, producer Harold Nebenzal, Paul Diamond (son of Wilder’s writing partner I.A.L. Diamond), German actor Mario Adorf, and Rex McGee, Wilder’s long-time friend and protégé. On-set interviews with Billy Wilder himself and a plethora of never-before-published photographs and documents are also included, as is a comparison between the final release version and Billy Wilder’s longer director’s cut (which will hopefully be restored in time for FEDORA’s release on blu-ray and DVD).

Fiction Factory’s SWAN SONG: THE STORY OF BILLY WILDERʼS FEDORA is now in production and will be ready for delivery in the fall of 2013.

Fiction Factory is proud to announce the street date of its latest production: On June 5, Paris-based boutique label Carlotta Films will include NO TRESPASSING: JOE DANTE ON FILMING »PIRANHA« on the French DVD and blu-ray editions of Dante’s second feature film for producer Roger Corman, PIRANHA (1978). The documentary is filled with anecdotes and information on working in the exploitation genre for Corman in the 1970s; it covers the entire production process of this cult favorite, and and has a running time of 40 minutes.

REAL KILLER, FAKE NOSE retraces the making of Richard Fleischer’s THE BOSTON STRANGLER (1968), with special emphasis on its place in Fleischer’s oeuvre and its use of the split-screen technique, innovative at the time. The half-hour documentary features interviews with Mark Fleischer (the director’s son), Richard H. Kline (director of photography), and actress Sally Kellerman.

William Friedkin (KILLER JOE) discusses the authentic events that have inspired THE BOSTON STRANGLER and explains how he himself was influenced by the new techniques employed by Richard Fleischer in the film.
